Yes every turn in ballet, unless a choreographer wants to do one on the heel or something, is done on the ball of the foot. However, the dancer may or may not be in a high releve for the turn. For instance in some pas de basque you are on a flat foot in plie, but your weight is on the ball of your foot, and also in promenade you can be on a flat foot with weight on the ball of your foot. So basically every turn you are on the ball of the foot, but you might not always be en releve. In pique turns you roll through your toes to your just on a high releve, you don't keep you toes pointed, and in chaines you are on a high half point the whole time, the toes never pointe completely

How to slow down a pony's trot.?

I have gotten into a business deal with a lady I've known for years. We are selling a 14 hh Trakhener/Welsh cross. I had ridden him for her a few years ago, so I am familiar with him. He is very talented to be such an underdog. He's gone through training level eventing and he is really talented in dressage. However, there are two problems with our flatwork. 1) Since he is a pony, he does have very short, choppy strides when he trots. How can I help this? I have tried pushing him forward with my leg and seat, but he just speeds up. I need him to at least slow down his steps. Ideally, we could lengthen them as well. 2) Our canter is fabulous, but unfortunately our canter transitions are not. I can't seem to set him up well for neither the up or down canter transition, but I don't usually have problems doing that with any other horse. He's just very different from the horses I am used to riding.

Today during my baseball game i was stealing second and i looked back and saw that it was a foul ball so i slowed up to turn around and right before i got to the bag i felt a weird pain in my knee (same spot as the Patellar) as i started to go back i tried to jog but every time i went to take my first stride a sharp pain shot through my knee. Tips on strengthening the right lead?

I have a 20yo OTTB mare. She's had a year of off the track training (even though she's 20. After racing, she was a broodmare for the rest of her life), so she picks up both leads and is comfortable cantering on the right lead for the most part. Her trot and canter to the left are very balanced and she has a wonderful hunter frame. To the right, she goes on the bit, but picks her head back up every few strides. At the canter, her butt is to the inside, and she likes to lean a bit (not horrible though). She can be dead to my right leg, so we've been doing lots of turns on the forehand and leg yields, and it's getting better. Anyway, she just started doing rated hunter shows this year (doing wonderful!), but one thing I want to improve a lot is her right lead canter. Can anyone help with a Ragdoll Kitten who doesn't like to be held?

I am a 1st time ragdoll owner. I just purchased a 9 month old Blue Bi-color boy from a small TICA approved cattery. I need advise regarding Louie's, my ragdoll, behavior. I purchased a ragdoll because of their social and floppy qualities and as a buddy for my 1 year old Orange and White rescue cat, Harry. The breeder had warned me that older cats transitions take longer. I have now had Louie for 2 months. He has made great strides and is best pals with Harry. He greets me at the door, waits for pets, and follows me around the house; all typical ragdoll behavior. However, he is very nervous around new people, fights me if I pick him up and hold him for more than 30 seconds, and only cuddles with me if I'm asleep...sometimes. I realize that he is in his teenage years and am wondering if this may be a phase that he is going through?! Shoulder pain while running?

I'm a competitive swimmer and I have a history of tendinitis and scapular dyskenisis. I'm a really bad runner to begin with and we have to run for dryland in the morning. So, whenever I run, I have really intense shoulder pain in my left shoulder all through the front and along the back. Question about cardio in new weight lifting workout routine.?

Hey guys, i recent;y started a new workout routine to get a little more fit. I'm not overweight, my BMI is about 15%, which i was told is in the normal range, but to be a bit more lean, i should stride for 8-9%. Now, at the same time i want to build some muscle, so my routine consists of a three day split, Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. Now my question is how should i fit cardio in this week? Only on my days off, two days a week, or should i go for the weekend too? Yesterday (Friday) i did legs, now my legs are pretty sore right now, but i could go for at least a jog now if i wanted to. Should i even bother, or should i just let them rest and recover the weekend? And by cardio i don't mean anything too stressful, about a half hour, 30 secs run, walk for 1 min and so on. Thanks, guys, any help would be appreciated, still trying to figure this whole thing out.

I have a thoroughbred that i got over a year ago from a place that just wanted to shoot her. I have always loved jumping so since she was my first and only horse, i wanted her to be my amazing jumper . she loved it, her ears would perk up when she turned toward a jump, and she loved that she could start somethign new. She has never jumped before, so i had to teach her. She seemed to be learning. I Wanted to try something new. I set up barrels and she went through them like nothing. She had a blast. Maybe she was a barrel racer before? And when i went back to jumping, something was different, when she was cantering towards a jump, she tureds the corner really sharp and threw her head down, ignored my hands, jumped flat, turned the corner sharp again, and kept going faster, it always threw me off balance. She never did this before. I didnt like the way she was behaving, so i started again, taking her, at a walk, slowly over a low crossrail, then a trot.. until she slowed her speed and took corners nicely.. but now, she doesnt have her usual upbeat, spirited stride. Would she rather barrel race than jump?

For your first time, this is great! I love the background story and moral, except... Maybe you could change the 'peasy' part, because it doesn't fit in with the seriousness of the rest of the poem. Their first and only other child has ruined her life and torn my parents and my hearts to shreds. So I have been dumped with all the expectation to be the perfect child. I work at my mom's job and am fixing to start working with a woman from my church to clean houses for profit. I have a lot of money saved up and am paying off a car they got for me. Now all I asked is if I could buy a stationary bike so I can work out more often (since my mom is never in the mood to take me to the gym and I don't get my license until next month). She said she would not let me buy it with my own money! Why?! I don't know! She says that we have an old treadmill I could use and I have the dance program ZUMBA. But, the treadmill is old, squeaks, and I never wanted it. She bought it and she never uses it! Then I explained I wanted to do ZUMBA in the mornings and the days I have a lot of energy but I like the bike for when I still want to work out but do not have enough energy to dance and stuff. I always wanted a stationary bike and it allows me to sit and do something while burning calories at the end of the day. So I was like whatever! Then I have Senior portraits that she said she would buy for me. I only have four outfits allowed to wear and a prop to go with them. I play the flute but quit playing lessons for the money and I wasn't practicing as much as I needed to. Now my mom is forcing me to take my picture with my flute because she is paying for them. Transitions. Your horse has to build the muscles in her back and neck so she can carry her head like you want her to do. Upward and downward transitions, cavaletti and spirals in and out will all help her use her back and neck properly and carry herself the way you want her to!

Hey I've recently started running this past february and I must say that I love it and am improving every time I run. Although I love it, I am REALLY slow - even compared to my friends who rarely work out. This has me worried that theres something wrong with me. I have extremely short strides but I can go for about two miles without stopping. Im talking short strides as in a couple notches about speed walking. I dont tire too too easily but the thing i'm really worried about is my tiny stride. I've tried a few times to quicken my pace but then I get too tired and have to go back to slow mode. A mile takes me between 9 to 11 minutes and I weigh about 135lbs. Can you guys help me explain this or give any advice/recommendations? Could it have something to do with my diet? Or is it something physical holding me back? I really want to get good at running long distances but cant seem to break the cycle. What do you all think? Thanks a bunch in advanced!

Basically, I was talking to this person over facebook (let's call him Jim) and we played truth or dare, He asked me to send naked pictures to him, but I refused because I hardly knew him and wouldn't do it anyway. I have a very bad pain in my leftside hip, what is causing it?

I injured my hip a few weeks ago, if that helps at all, by my friend accidentally falling on it. It has been fine ever since except for when it first happened it hurt to take long strides. Less than a weeks ago I woke up with my hip pain that severely discomforted me with sharp pains coming from the area I injured it. It is coming from the front left area of the hip. I found a positions where the hip wasn't being hurt (laying on my right side with my legs together and bent slightly) and was fine the next day. I thought it was a random occurrence until it happened again tonight. I guess both days I was fairly active, more so than I usually am, I suppose that is important to. Besides visiting a physician, what is the best idea or advice for what is wrong and what I can do about it?

Well, I didn't ride yesterday, but my last ride was awful. The lady that was watching me ride was all, "Everything that you're doing on this horse is un-doing what your working on with your other horse!" and she told me that I wasn't allowed to trot or canter!!! I have difficulty breathing when I run?

First key, you NEED to relax. Running isn't that big of a deal. You need to breath in through your nose, then exhale from your mouth. Don't sprint in the beginning, and gradually get faster, at the end you should be sprinting and crossing the finish line. I find that holding my breathe underwater helps me build up lung capacity. Trust me, you're not going to be the only one finding it hard to run. Take longer strides too.

How do you teach a horse to keep a calm collected canter?

I have a 9 year old QH mare. She has lots of spirit and power beneath her strides and i have trouble getting her to slow canter. She has very long stides so whenever i try to keep her canter slow she's off balanced and loses her stride and drops back down to a trot where she's more comfortable, And because her strides are long she can trot just as fast as a canter so i guess that's why she doesn't want to canter slow(deciding to stick with what feels easier to her.) Are there any suggestions on how to encourage her to canter slowly instead of rushing or putting to much power in her strides?

Anxiety/panic attack triggers?

ok i've been dealing with anxiety/panic attacks for almost a month now. I am in therapy to deal with this problem, but i noticed that i have the weirdest triggers, and want to know how i can deal with them, and what weird trigger people have had that way i know i'm not the only one with these weird triggers. one trigger is the one car commercial with that red car that multiplies it self, my face beings to feel tight, then moves on to the tight band around head, then the anxiety kicks in with the feeling of derealization and fear...also it feels like poking around my face (just seen the commercial as i was typing this out, and i sat down and tried to watch it take note how i feel watching it). another weird trigger which sounds more weird, i was watching Hellboy, and towards the end when they release the dark gods. seeing the tenticles come thru the clouds caused me to have a near panic attack, weird thing is i watched the movie a few times awhile back and nothing happened. then when im going to bed, my mind remembers that scene, then my anxiety kicks in, then a wave of fear hits me as my imagination makes me thing some thing heavy is on me some where. and yes even when my girl friend rolls over to have her arm over my chest, or some times her leg over laps mine. i do have a slight fear of snakes, and wondering if maybe thats why i get the panic attack from the scene on hellboy? is it that my anxiety disorder is multiplying my fear of snakes 10 fold? or is it just one of those random triggers that come with anxiety disorders? and my other trigger is when i'm driving. i'm ok if there is no one else on the road, but when i see a line of cars coming towards me i get this weird feeling, it's like the tight band around the head, but it feels like the back part of my head is stretched back, and i get slight pressure behind my eyes along with slight fear. i always loved going for drives before i had this anxiety disorder, i would always go for a lap or two around town when i'm bored, even bring my 2 year old daughter for a drive when she cranky. but now it's hard going for drives when i feel like that. i tried to take note on how i felt with the anxiety, and some of the feels were the same when i watched hellboy. finally two weirder triggers: when i watch some thing move slow, like when some one is driving, and they slow down to less then 10 km an hour, or even when they are trying to parallel park (the slowly moving forward and backwards). and the second one is when i'm eating and i put a small piece of food in my mouth, i get that fear shoot through my body, or when i chew gum it seems i have to have two pieces of that stride gum in my mouth, if i have one i feel like the anxiety is going to kick in at any time... i know these are some thing i should ask my therapist, but i only see her once a week since she only here 2 days out of the week, and the rest she is out of town at other communities for other appointments on mental health... i thought i'd reach out to other people who have suffered from anxiety disorders, and get some input on how to deal with weird triggers. I understand my anxiety is rooted with stress from the present since my daughter in her terrible 2's and the fact that a dream job i was so close to getting was shut down for the time being due to financial issues. and possibly from my child hood. and possible from taking amoxolin for bronchitis i had last month (i'm not 100% my anxiety could have been a catalyst that set off the anxiety. but my therapist said it could of been, and to take B 100 complex vitamins to gain back some of the healthy bacteria that the amoxolin got rid of.) the vitamins have been helping with the combination of therapy to lower my anxiety levels, but its these triggers that keep that thought the back of my head causing me to have an anxiety attack at times during the day. any help would be fine, or even just leave an answer with your weird triggers so i don't feel alone, sorry for making this long. it's just a habit for me as a writer. I did my best to shorten this as much as i could, just trying to proof read this is making me remember the feeling of anxiety and panic... damn weird triggers. i know some day i will get over this, i just need some words of wisdom or even tips to over come the triggers from other people who have went through this. thank you for taking time in reading this.

Horse Is Grinding Teeth In Rythym?

I recently purchased a new horse. She is a Registered Quarter Horse with a lot of Thoroughbred in her blood. She looks more like a TB too! She is 6 years old, and is broke. For a while now when I have been free longeing her, she has grinded (clacked?) her teeth together to the rhythm of her gait. She doesn't do it at a walk, mainly at a trot. Every stride she takes she will do this. Not to mention, HARD! I can feel it in the longe line itself not to mention hear, and see it! I'm probably going to have someone come out, and look at her teeth soon, but I wanted to see if anyone has had a similar thing happen, and what they did about it if anything. She doesn't seem to be in any sort of pain by the way. When she's done this she was always moving freely with her ears forward. And, she does not do this when she's being ridden either. Only when longed or in showmanship on the ground. Also, her eating habits are completely normal. She does, however, have a history of pacing fence lines, and making faces (pinning her ears back) when asked to do more than she desires. How can i teach my off the track thoroughbred to canter!?

You need to go back to square on with him, beginning with riding in an arena at the walk. He needs to be retrained (with a lot of patience) to yield to light bit pressure and to respond to your seat and leg. The best methods to do this are those of classical dressage principles. Once he responds in to your seat and leg and light hand in the walk, you proceed to the trot and then eventually to the canter. This is a slow, methodical process, with the horse letting you know when he's ready to progress to the next step. What you DO NOT want to do is pull on his mouth with both hands. You will start with one rein only to begin to teach him to yield to the pressure rather than to lean into it. This is just the beginning and it would take far too long to go into detail about the whole process here. Get a copy of one of the classical dressage texts (one of my favourites is Riding Logic - Littauer) and study it. Be patient with your horse. Don't be in such a hurry to get him cantering. The more time you take now, the less time it will take later on to get a good, calm, balanced, rhythmic canter.

How can I help myself to not break down and continue being the 'rock' for my friends and family?

My friends and family consistently have problems added on to already traumatic lives and I feel incredibly selfish when I feel myself falling apart of simple things. I really want to help everyone I care about, but I'm in the midst of going through puberty, and I'm already dealing with my own problems on top of having to help everyone else I know with their problems. I don't want to complain about my life, because I know its pretty good compared to some people I know, but it hasn't been a cake-walk either. I really hate feeling like I'm not in control of my emotions. I previously was incredibly good at keeping them locked up so I could be the 'rock' for everyone who needed my help. I built up a reputation for being a very stable and calm individual who could handle anything that was thrown at me. I was known for helping people out and knowing just the right thing to say, but after a chain of events that I don't wish to discuss[Synopsis: One of my friends died because of this chain of events and everyone has been very depressed], I've been left completely drained. I no longer have any idea what to say to any of my friends when they come to me for advice and I feel like I'm letting them down. Since I've been feeling hollow, everyone else's world has seemed to begin crashing down, and everyone else seems more stressed. Even under conditions like these, where a friend's death is involved, I'm known to remain calm and be the 'rock', but this time, I was just shattered. I really need advice on how to take all this stress in stride. Someone, can you please tell me how to beat back my emotions? I don't need anyone coming in here and telling me that I need to express my emotions freely. Everyone else I know is already doing that and they need someone who doesn't do that ever to be there for them. (Ballet Dancers) What did i do to my ankle?

You may have tore a ligament or made it loose. I would stop dancing and get it checked cause you will just be making things worse. I tore ligaments in my ankle and needed surgery cause I didn't treat it right and I made it worse. Trust me you don't want it if your a dancer cause you won't be able to dance for many months. I had surgery in January and still have to do stretches cause it gets tight and then it's hard to move. Go see an orthopedic and they will help you. Good luck

How's my story last part?

It's a pretty good ending but there are a few places that it could probably be improved. The line "Where the do you think you're goin' " sounds a little cliche. Also you need to sell the pain of her beating a little more if she is going to pass out from it. All in all I found it compelling, keep at it and make it great.

So my christian friend urged me to read the bible. Being a fan of fantasy stories and other escapist works I gave it a try. So for it's been on par. It has a nice mythos to it and has some interesting characters. So far though I haven't found anything too profound, as it seems a tad cliched and bogged down in fantastical nonsense. What confuses me is how large it's fan base is. I understand it has quite a large fan-club with some very dedicated readers, bordering on making the book a cult classic. There are gatherings of readers every week where someone will read a few passages as well. I might just not be getting it, but a lot of people seem to like this book. While I still prefer Tolkien this book has really piqued my interest, and I want to learn more about it. Can anyone perhaps say why this is so popular?

No way!!!! No you should not start switch-hitting. It will be a wast of your time if you start now. If you were 10 years old, then you would have time to work on it. If you are serious about the game of baseball, and want to go far with it, it's more beneficial to keep batting righty. Plus almost all switch hitters in the Major leagues started hitting lefty, and then moved to hitting righty. Trust me, it is way more easier to switch from lefty to righty than it is righty to lefty. All you need to do is focus on your right handed batting. If you start lefty now, that is taking away time from you improving your right handed swing. And since you are in high school (I hope), baseball is starting to get real competitive and you don't want to do anything that could damage your talent. And no, practicing lefty will not help your right handed swing in any way.

Okay, so i just went on a cruise trip for a week and i met this boy. He is really sweet, slightly geeky, funny, and literally the guy version of me. We are the exact same.
